If a new rumor proves true, the former Disney Channel star, Zendaya, may have the opportunity to portray an iconic character in one of Disney's forthcoming live-action adaptations.

According to That Hashtag Show's sources, Zendaya - who as the character Michelle had a significant role in Sony's
Spider-Man: Homecoming - was offered the lead role of Ariel in Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid film.

Though this is just a rumor at this point, it sounds like a good choice on Disney's part. After all, with great roles in projects like The Greatest Showman, Zendaya has proven that she has both the singing and acting chops to portray the famous princess.

The Little Mermaid has yet to set a release date, but it will be directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) and will feature songs from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
