Back in December, it was confirmed that Disney is moving forward with a reboot of
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The original science-fiction comedy film from 1989 starred Rick Moranis and served as the directorial debut of Joe Johnston.
The film saw an inventor named Wayne Szalinski accidentally shrink his and his neighbor's children. The kids must traverse the dangerous backyard to get back home and get someone's attention in order to be restored to their regular size.
According to the reports from back then, Johnston will return to direct the reboot and Josh Gad (
Frozen 2) is in talks to play Wayne Szalinski's grown-up son who (featured in the original and) similarly ends up accidentally shrinking a group of children — inspired by his father.
Recently,
ComicBook.com reported that they were able to confirm that Rick Moranis will return to acting and reprise the role of Wayne Szalinski for the upcoming reboot. What's more, the site was also able to get their hands on a somewhat tragic, new synopsis for the film — which you can read through below. It's also mentioned that the
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reboot will get a theatrical release.
