Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is a science-fiction comedy film from 1989 which starred Rick Moranis. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures;
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids served as the directorial debut of Joe Johnston.
The film saw an inventor by the name of Wayne Szalinski accidentally shrink his and his neighbor's children to a quarter of an inch tall with an electromagnetic shrinking machine. The kids must traverse their treacherous backyard in order to return home and get someone's attention so that they can be restored to their regular height.
According to a new report by
Variety, Disney are in talks with Johnston to reprise his role as director of the film and helm a reboot. Josh Gad will apparently star as Wayne Szalinski's grown-up son who was inspired by his father's antics to become an inventor and similarly ends up shrinking some kids.
Though the film was originally intended to be one for Disney's streaming service, after reading through the script by Todd Rosenberg, it will now have a theatrical release. David Hoberman is on-board as producer. However, the report mentions that the project is in very early development and hasn't yet been greenlit yet.
