The original Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series will be coming to Disney+ next month. On April 2, Volume 1 and Volume II of the 2003 television micro-series will be hitting the streaming service.
Not to be confused with the 2008 TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars led by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: Clone Wars was developed and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack). The micro-series consisted of 25 episodes that ran between 2003 and 2005, the time between the release of Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
The series explored the conflict between the clone troopers and the droid battle armies of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, with also involved battles between the Jedi and the Sith. Volume One consists of 20 two- to three-minute episodes released across the first two seasons, while Volume 2 features five 12-minute episodes.
When Disney acquired Lucasfilm and the rights to the Star Wars franchise in 2013, the series was declared to be non-canonical and was placed under the Star Wars Legends banner. Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars ultimately became the official Star Wars canon, and you can also watch all the seasons of that on Disney+.
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume I and Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume II will be available to stream on Disney+ starting Friday, April 2.
