Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers stars John Mulaney and Andy Samberg shared a brief update on the upcoming hybrid live-action/CG animated feature, calling it a "comeback" and not a reboot. The two stars appeared in a brief video to tease their respective roles as Chip and Dale and share a new teaser poster for the movie that clearly refers to it as "a comeback 30 years in the making."

"Now, I know what you're thinking, 'Another reboot, no!'" Samberg jokes in the short clip below. "But our film isn't a reboot, it's a comeback."

The poster also confirms that the original movie will hit Disney+ in Spring 2022. While that may seem soon, pre-production on the film began in October of last year.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers will be directed by Akiva Schaffer who is best known for his work on Saturday Night Live. He also directed Taccone and some episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which also stars Samberg.

The original Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers animated series ran for three seasons on the Disney Channel. The adventure comedy series re-imagined the titular chipmunks as leaders of a team of pint-sized crime-fighters. The finale episode aired on November 19, 1990.
