All the way back in 2012, Lucasfilm officially announced (at Star Wars Celebration Orlando) that an animated series named Star Wars Detours was in the works - six years later, the show is yet to see the light of day.
Though that could be changing soon as Lucasfilm recently filed trademarks for the show's title - as you can see below in a post to the StarWarsLeaks subreddit:
New applications for STAR WARS DETOURS trademark filed from r/StarWarsLeaks
The creators of Robot Chicken, the stop-motion animated show which itself had a couple of Star Wars-centric episodes, were the masterminds behind Detours. While it's unclear which demographic the show was aimed at, we do know that it would've been comedy-heavy and self-deprecating - meaning it would've poked fun at the Star Wars franchise as a whole.
Back when the series was announced there weren't any new films on the horizon; when the sequel trilogy was announced it postponed the animated comedy series indefinitely. Despite the fact that all 30 episodes of the show were completed and many more were already scripted - George Lucas himself gave the show his stamp of approval.
So perhaps this trademark application could mean a resurrection of the seemingly dead series. What do you think? Would you like Star Wars Detours to return?
The announcement of the show, during Star Wars Celebration, came with a 4-minute trailer - which you can check out below:
