The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards show is currently underway. To kick off the ceremony, which is taking place in Los Angeles, Homer Simpson walked out on stage. He's best known for being the husband of Marge Simpson and father of Bart, Lisa, and Maggie on FOX's The Simpsons.

The cartoon sitcom star wasn't garbed in his traditional get-up of a white shirt and blue pants but rather a tux. Evidently, hosting the Emmys meant a lot to Homer. He began an inspiring monologue in which he stated, “For those of you out there who are without hope, this has been my impossible dream." It wasn't until his next sentence that an unpredictable tragedy would occur.

"If it can happen to me, then you," said Simpson before a wild grand piano came hurtling down on him from above. It was certainly a shocking occurrence. As for the wellbeing of Mr. Simpson, we're unsure. He did manage to get out his signature "D'oh" catchphrase after the disasterous incident — so we at least know that it wasn't fatal.

We can only keep our fingers crossed for him to pull through and make a full recovery. You can check out official video footage of his time on stage below (via @TheSimpsons):
