FX President On Why The DEADPOOL Animated Series Was Not Developed
An animated series for the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, has been in the spotlight for a while now. Reasons for its halt have been given before but this time, the FX President weighs in.
An animated series for the Merc with a Mouth himself, Deadpool, has been one of the most requested projects by Marvel fans. The series has been in the spotlight for a while due to the cancellation and comeback of the project. Many people have chimed in and said whether the series is in or out, however, we now have word from the FX President John Landgraf.
Landgraf gave more information about the project in the TCA presentation. He didn't reveal much, he just states that the project was not made because Marvel itself was not that interested. "Deadpool didn't work out because Marvel didn't want to make it. It didn't fit what they wanted to do with Deadpool and it's their brand and their decision."
"They didn't want to do the show that Donald and Stephen [Glover] wrote. We would have done the show that Donald and Stephen wrote, but it wasn't our decision. When Marvel decided not to do that show, we parted company with them, as did Donald and Stephen."
Donald Glover was going to handle the show, the animated series was going to be airing at FX. However, the show was cancelled and that lead Glover to leak the script and everyone got to read it. This script made the request for an animated series even stronger.
Last month we reported how the creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, stated that the animated series is still possible. Of course, there is no official word from anyone and the creator does not have "inside sources" at all. What do you think? Is the series still up in the air?
