Over a year has passed since
Adventure Time concluded. The popular animated series began in September of 2010 and came to an end in September, 2018.
Adventure Time followed the adventures of a human named Finn and his best friend Jake (a dog who's capable of transforming at will). The pair reside in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo and interact with a variety of other eccentric characters — such as Princess Bubblegum, the Ice King, Marceline, BMO, and many more.
While the series came to an end last year, it has been continued through the medium of comic books and the like. However, there will be more animated
Adventure Time to come as; it has been announced that four new specials will be coming to HBO Max (that's HBO's upcoming streaming service). These specials will begin to debut in 2020 and each be an hour in length.
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, had this to say about the return of
Adventure Time:
"The enchanted world of Adventure Time has mesmerized viewers and critics alike as Finn and Jake right wrongs and battle evil. The addition of these specials to the HBO Max kids and family programming lineup is sure to make kids everywhere say ‘Slam-bam-in-a-can!’"
Below you can read what are essentially synopses for the upcoming animated specials — that are collectively titled
Adventure Time: Distant Lands — as well as a cool, new poster (via
TVLine):
• BMO follows the lovable little robot from Adventure Time. When there's a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there's only one hero to call, and it's probably not BMO. Except that this time it is!
• Obsidian features Marceline & Princess Bubblegum as they journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom—and deep into their tumultuous past—to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe.
• Wizard City follows Peppermint Butler, starting over at the beginning, as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. When mysterious events at the campus cast suspicion on Pep, and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?
• Together Again brings Finn and Jake together again, to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.
