WOLFWALKERS: The 'Irish Miyazaki' Talks Up The Movie That Could Win The Oscar For Best Animated Film

Tonight's Academy Awards sees animated films going up against a Pixar juggernaut, but the director dubbed 'Irish Miyazaki" has weighed in on why he thinks the third film in his trilogy could nab it!

2021 has been flying by so fast that the Academy Awards are already with us. With the ceremony taking place tonight, we will finally learn who nabs the Best Animated Feature win.

Disney and Pixar's recent juggernaut Soul is expected to be a sure win tonight. However, Wolfwalkers has more than a slim chance of taking the Oscar.

The third film in a trilogy from the director dubbed the "Irish Miyazaki", Wolfwalkers has received excellent praise. Directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart recently told The Daily Beast that they expect that the film not only should win the award tonight but also that it has a chance.

Moore: This is the most collaborative film I’ve made because Ross and I co-directed. It was totally 50-50 on it from the beginning. We came up with the idea together, the purpose, and filled it with things that we were passionate about like habitat destruction, species extinction, breaking down the polarization that’s going on in society by using the metaphor of the English and pagan Irish. Those are the things that, for me, make this more—I’m not gonna say less personal, but definitely a more collaborative project. At every stage of the production, different departments were asked to be artists and filmmakers as well as technicians. So I think that’s what makes this one special for me.
