Gameoverse is officially becoming a full series. Australian animation studio GLITCH announced late last week that the show from Ross O'Donovan has been greenlit for full production, with an 8-episode season set to begin in May 2027.
The studio shared the news on X with a short video and a message fans had been waiting on since the pilot dropped.
A Pilot That Proved Itself
The greenlight follows a huge response to the pilot, which premiered on GLITCH's YouTube channel in May. GAMEOVERSE: PILOT reached 10 million views in its first three days and has kept climbing since, putting it in the same conversation as the studio's biggest launches.
The 2D series is created by O'Donovan, the animator better known to many fans as RubberRoss, and is written by O'Donovan and Arin Hanson. O'Donovan has been developing the world for more than a decade, and it shows in how much the pilot packs into its runtime.
The pilot has a bright, clean 2D look that sets it apart from the 3D style of GLITCH's biggest hit, The Amazing Digital Circus. With a full season on the way, the team now has room to build out the many game worlds Kit will pass through, each one a chance to riff on a different genre.
For anyone who missed it, the pilot is still free to watch on YouTube.
What Gameoverse Is About
The show follows Kit Bodega, a hero whose world is destroyed after she defeats its villains. To save other game worlds from the same fate, Kit has to do something that goes against every instinct a video game hero has: help the bad guys stop the heroes from winning.
The twist comes from how these worlds work. When a hero wins, the victory releases an energy called Float, and a figure named Syntax is harvesting it. Every triumphant ending speeds up the destruction, so Kit's job is to keep the story going by making sure the final boss survives a little longer.
It is a clever setup for an animated series. It lets the writers parody platformers, RPGs and every other genre they want while giving Kit an emotional arc built on loss and responsibility.
The Cast And Crew
Erica Lindbeck voices Kit. Animation fans know her as Loona in Helluva Boss, and she has a long list of game credits including Black Cat in Marvel's Spider-Man, Futaba in Persona 5 and Cassie Cage in Mortal Kombat 11. She has called the role "as much of a massive honor as it is a massive responsibility," adding, "My favorite thing about Kit is her ability to constantly look outside of herself in order to best serve the people around her... Her empathy is her biggest strength, no question."
The supporting cast includes:
- JSchlatt as Kaboodle
- Chris Sabat as Warrick
- Arin Hanson as Gobbles and Flappers
- Elsie Lovelock as Ms. Information
- Michael Cusack, co-creator of Smiling Friends, as Snappers
The music comes from two names game fans will recognize right away, Grant Kirkhope and Jake Kaufman. The pilot also has a Japanese dub featuring Nana Mizuki.
What The Team Is Saying
O'Donovan thanked fans in the announcement. "I'm happy to share with you all that more Gameoverse is coming! I'm excited for you all to see what me and my extraordinary team have been cooking. Thank you for your continued support!" he said.
GLITCH co-founder Luke Lerdwichagul said the studio is "incredibly excited to bring Ross's world to life," pointing to the more than a decade of dedication O'Donovan has put into crafting the show.
Release Schedule
The season begins in May 2027, and the schedule shared with the announcement spreads the first episodes across the year:
- Episode 2: May 21, 2027
- Episode 3: August 27, 2027
- Episode 4: October 29, 2027
GLITCH was founded in Australia by brothers Kevin Lerdwichagul and Luke Lerdwichagul, and it has grown into one of the most-watched independent animation studios online by releasing pilots on YouTube and building full series around the ones fans respond to most.
That pacing is familiar for GLITCH, which has released its indie series in a similar spread-out way. Gameoverse joins a slate that already includes The Amazing Digital Circus, Murder Drones and Knights of Guinevere, and some fans have already used the news to ask about the status of other GLITCH projects such as Gaslight District.
Are you more excited to see how Kit's world expands across a full season, or would you rather GLITCH put its focus on another one of its pilots first?
