Dynamic Duo Star Logan Kim Debunks Rumor That Animated Movie Will Be Part Of The Main DCU

There have been some conflicting reports about Dynamic Duo's place in DCU canon, but one of the animated movie's stars, Logan Kim, has now set the record straight...

Despite reports to the contray, it looks like Dynamic Duo will be a fully Elseworlds story after all.

Last month, Brazilian reporter @mundosdadc claimed that Dynamic Duo will be set in the DCU, which would mean that the animated film will mark the big-screen debut of our new Dark Knight (we did get a shadowy glimpse of Batman in the Creature Commandos animated series).

Then, earlier this week, @AtlantaDCFans reported that the movie's voice actors will reprise their respective roles in live-action down the line - with the exception of Batman (Chris Pine has been rumored to be in the mix to voice the hero).

If accurate, this would mean that Mason Thames will play Dick Grayson, Logan Kim will play Jason Todd, and Lee Pace and Steve Buscemi would suit up as Red Hood One (aka The Joker) and Red Hood Two.

It always seemed like a bit of an odd approach, and Kim has now taken to social media to debunk the rumor.

Gunn hasn't weighed in, but the DC Studios co-CEO did address the recent speculation that Matthew Lillard will play an older take on Barry Allen in Man of Tomorrow. Not too surprisingly, he will not.

Earlier this year at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, we learned that Dynamic Duo will actually focus on Todd and Grayson, who meet as a pair of "street rats" before going their separate ways. Dick becomes Batman's Boy Wonder, while Jason joins the Red Hood Gang, setting up an eventual confrontation between the former friends.

(500) Days of Summer writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber penned the latest draft of the script, and the movie is said to utilize CGI, 2D animation, miniatures, models, puppetry, and animatronics.

"Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, Dynamic Duo, the story of Robin...or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd," James Gunn said when the movie was announced. "The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho. This is something special."

Gunn said that there "might be a way" to make Dynamic Duo "fit into the DCU" last year.

"There might be a way it might fit into the DCU. I would love for this animated puppet movie to be a part of the DCU. That's really appealing to me, but the story is unique, and so it may not work within our universe."

Dynamic Duo is set to be released in theaters on September 22, 2028.
