Randall Park, Elijah Wood, Ashley Johnson, and Yvette Nicole Brown are set to star in CBS Studios' upcoming Among Us animated series.
The series will follow a similar premise to the game that it is based on from developer Innersloth: "Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
Park (Fresh Off the Boat, Always Be My Maybe) will voice Red, the "people-pleaser, blowhard" who has "failed upwards" and is now captain of The Skeld. Johnson (The Last of Us) will voice Purple, the suspicious and sarcastic Chief of Security with trust issues. Brown (Community, Central Park) will voice Orange, the ship's HR and a spineless corporate shill. And lastly, Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings, Yellowjackets) will voice Green, an unpaid intern who is just "happy to be there."
The Among Us animated series is based on the video game of the same name from Innersloth. The online multiplayer social deduction game divides players into two roles: Crewmates and Imposters. Crewmates are tasked with completing assigned tasks during the game while also trying to identify and vote out suspected Impostors. The Imposters, who appear identical to Crewmates, try to kill off the Crewmates.
Although this will serve as the general premise of the Among Us animated series, a cast this talented will surely bring more to the series.
The Among Us video game was released in 2018, but didn't rise to its massive popularity until 2020 while most of the world was isolated due to the pandemic. With many confined to their homes, Among Us provided a nice way to remain socially distanced while also interacting with friends.
The Among Us series was announced in 2023 and last month we got our first look in the form of teaser artwork. It revealed the ship's abandoned cafeteria, decorated with balloons and a blood-soaked sign that reads "We're Dead!"
CBS Eye Animation Productions is partnering with Innersloth on the series with Owen Dennis (Infinity Train) serving as creator and executive producer. Titmouse (Big Mouth, Star Trek: Lower Decks) is doing the animation. No release date for the series has been announced yet.
