Season 1 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man made several major changes to the web-slinger's early years. However, by serving as a love letter to Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's early Amazing Spider-Man comics, the Marvel Animation series still won the approval of fans.
Season 2 swings onto Disney+ next January, and there's already been a lot of chatter about Season 3 being in development. Now, though, showrunner Jeff Trammell has confirmed that work is also underway on Season 4.
In an interview with Collider, Trammell said, "I don't know what I can say, and no one's stopping me, so I'm gonna say we're already working on Seasons 3 and 4 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."
By the time the series returns to our screens, two years will have passed since we last saw this Variant of Peter Parker. However, by developing a third and fourth batch of episodes now, it should ensure the wait between seasons is considerably shorter moving forward.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Trammell confirmed that they'll be "hitting the ground running" in Season 2 by addressing those cliffhangers—such as Richard Parker's shocking return—and introducing some major new characters.
"I'm really excited for people to see more from Nico Minoru this season. She's a big part of Season 2, and I think people are really going to dig what we're doing with her," he teased. "Eddie Brock, I'm a huge Eddie Brock fan. It was announced that Josh Keaton is playing Eddie Brock, so I'm excited for people to see what he's doing, as well as Norman's up to some stuff that I'm really excited about as well."
With Venom, Doctor Octopus, and Spider-Gwen all set to appear in Season 2, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is wasting no time in adding some big-name characters to Spidey's world. That's exciting, and we have to believe the Green Goblin will take centre stage in those third and fourth seasons.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.
The talented voice cast includes Hudson Thames, Colman Domingo, Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, Zeno Robinson, Hugh Dancy and Charlie Cox.
The head writer is Jeff Trammell, and Mel Zwyer is the supervising director. Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt and Trammell serve as executive producers.
In our review of Season 1, we concluded by saying, "Amazing, spectacular, and downright astonishing - Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man exceeds every expectation and is a true love letter to the world's greatest superhero...the end result is the ultimate Spider-Man TV series."
All episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 are now streaming on Disney+. Season 2 premieres on January 13.
