The Willoughbys is an upcoming animated movie that's set to debut on the Netflix streaming service in just two days from now (on April 22nd, to be clear). It's based on the children's book of the same name by Lois Lowry that released back in 2008. Directed by Kris Pearn, the movie was producer by Bron Animation.
"Convinced they’d be better off raising themselves, the Willoughby children hatch a sneaky plan to send their selfish parents on vacation. The siblings then embark on their own high-flying adventure to find the true meaning of family," reads the official synopsis (via Netflix).
The voice cast includes Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Alessia Cara, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski, Terry Crews, and Ricky Gervais. While the majority of those names serve as various members of the titular family, the latter plays their cat. Gervais essentially serves as the narrator of the movie and this is showcased in an official clip that was recently released.
We're provided with a rundown of the family's history as well as introduced to Tim, Jane, Barnaby, and Barnaby Willoughby. Forte serves as the voice of Tim, Cara serves as the voice of Jane. They're essentially the main characters of the piece.
That's not the only clip that's been released, however. There's also an official clip which sees Commander Melanoff and Nanny rescue a baby from its impending doom at a candy factory. Suffice it to say, each of the clips is quite different from the other. You can check out both of those clips as well as the movie's official trailer below.
