Early tracking for
Toy Story 4 is putting the Pixar animated sequel on track for a domestic opening weekend around $150 million.
If estimates hold, that would make
Toy Story 4 the second biggest opening ever for an animated movie domestically, behind
Incredibles 2 ($182.7M) but ahead of Finding Dory ($135.1M). However, analysts acknowledge that
Toy Story 4's opening weekend number could reach as high as $180 million in North America after Disney's final marketing push along with reviews (should they be positive).
Earlier this week, online movie ticketing website Fandango announced that
Toy Story 4 had become the new record-holder for most first-day ticket sales for an animated movie, topping
Incredibles 2.
Of Pixar's top three domestic box office performers,
Incredibles 2 is at the top with a lifetime domestic total of $608.6 million.
Finding Dory, the sequel to
Finding Nemo, opened with $135 million and went on to pull in $486.2 million domestically.
Toy Story 4 is currently outpacing the previous three installments in the franchise.
Toy Story 3 opened with $110.3 million and finished with a domestic run of $415 million.
