Glowing reviews and positive word of mouth are seemingly translating into big box office numbers for
Toy Story 4. Pixar's latest summer blockbuster officially hits theaters today, but the film has already scored $12 million in Thursday night previews.
It's not record-setting, as Pixar's Incredibles 2 still holds the mantle for biggest opening for an animated film with $18.5 million, but it's still an impressive number. According to Deadline,
Toy Story 4 could pull in an additional $55 million on Friday, setting up a $150M-$160M-plus opening weekend.
Should these estimates prove true,
Toy Story 4's opening weekend numbers would land the film between
Incredibles 2 ($182.6M) and Finding Dory ($135M). Both films went on to eclipse the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office.
Toy Story 3, which opened in 2010, also earned over $1 billion worldwide.
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
Toy Story 4 is now playing in theaters.
