During a talk at the VIEW Conference, Mireille Soria, the president of Paramount Animation, provided new details on the upcoming
Spongebob film.
As per the movie's title,
Spongebob's next adventure will be a homage to Frank Capra's
It's A Wonderful Life. Furthermore, it'll be an origin story and will be released nearly 20 years after the series first aired on Nickelodeon.
During her talk, Soria said the following:
“For the first time ever, we’re going to get to the origin of how little Spongebob met the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang at summer camp. The film’s opening will take place at Camp Coral when all of our favorite characters meet for the first time.”
Additionally, the movie will exhibit a cg version of the Spongebob universe that blends hybrid sequences with characters in the live world. This approach is similar to the previous film, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water.
Paris and Montreal-based Mikros Animation will handle the cg animation on the movie. The studio previously produced the animation on DreamWorks' Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and is currently working on the upcoming Asterix: The Secret Of The Magic Potion.
The film's composer is Hans Zimmer (Disney's The Lion King). He will provide musical direction and incorporate songs from big name artists who will be announced at a later date.
The film will be directed by show veteran Tim Hill.
The Spongebob Movie: It's A Wonderful Sponge is slated for a July 17th 2020 release.
