Back in January, there were rumors that the iconic
Superman: Red Son story
was being developed into an animated movie. At San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment officially announced it.
An adaptation of Mark Millar's 2003 miniseries,
Superman: Red Son is set during the Cold War with the premise "what if Superman had been raised in the Soviet Union?"
The synopsis on DC Comics reads:
He's a strange visitor from another world who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands' -- and who, as the champion of the common worker, fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, Socialism and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.A deftly written alternate take on the mythos of the Man of Steel, RED SON explores the classic tale of Superman's origins' -- if his rocketship had landed in the Soviet Union rather than Smallville, Kansas.
Superman: Red Son will be WBHE's first release of 2020. The second will be another
Superman movie — an original titled
Superman: Man of Tomorrow. This is a completely original film, not based on any existing DC Comics material.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow will also release in 2020.
These announcements came before the premiere of WBHE's
Batman: Hush, which is available on Digital as of today.
