Michael B. Jordan, best known for starring in the likes of Creed, Black Panther, and Just Mercy, has reportedly signed with Warner Bros. Pictures to produce a movie based on the DC Comics superhero character Static A.K.A. Virgil Hawkins.
Static is best known for leading the early-2000s animated series Static Shock, which aired on the Warner Bros. Television Network as a part of their Kids programming block. The series aired for four season and overall consisted of fifty-two episodes. Long has Static Shock remained a staple of pop culture — and now he's set to make a triumphant return.
Reginald Hudlin, screenwriter and director, is also involved with the project along with Jordan. The following is what the actor told The Hollywood Reporter:
"I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that." Jordan continued; "Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step."
The report seems to suggest that this Static Shock film will be the launchpad for a whole new cinematic universe that Jordan will produce with his Outlier Society banner.
"Outlier will be in the creative center of the Static feature and for Jordan, a comic book fan, this is an opportunity for not only for some world-building but to be directly involved in franchise-building. Should the first movie spark a hit, a multi-platform franchise could be born," said the site.
Following the publishing of this report, Jordan took to social media to share the cover a comic book, that being Static #1. You can check out the actor's tweet below (via @michaelb4jordan):
