In celebration of National Spider-Man Day, Sony has released a new image for its upcoming animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The image features Miles Morales looking at a collection of three suits worn by Peter Parker's Spider-Man and almost serves as a passing of the torch as Parker - now 40 years old - is stepping aside to let Morales take the mantle as the neighborhood friendly web-slinger. Parker will instead shift into more of a mentor role for Morales who quickly learns "with great power comes great responsibility."

On the left is the Electro-Proof suit, which first appeared in 1997's Amazing Spider-Man #425 and was used, as the name suggests, to defeat Electro. The middle is, of course, the classic Spider-Man suit seen most frequently. And finally, on the right, we have the Secret War Spider-Man suit, a S.H.I.E.L.D.-designed stealth suit.

Into the Spider-Verse is about more than different kinds of suits, though, as fans will be introduced to a ton of other unique takes of the classic hero. Among the other versions of the character featured in Into the Spider-Verse are Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), and Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld).

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on December 14, 2018.
