Certain reports would have followers of the film industry believe that Tenet severely under performed domestically, while Mulan was a big earner for Disney, drastically altering the movie release landscape.

Sony Pictures Animation updated its film slate for the rest of the year earlier today and in the process, Connected was completely taken off its schedule. The film was originally slated to be released on on October 23, 2020 following an earlier shift from its initial release date of September 18th, 2020.

WB and director Christopher Nolan imagined Tenet would revitalize the domestic box office but after earning a paltry $20 million in its opening weekend, studios are altering their strategies for the rest of 2020 after such a tepid performance.

Conversely, Mulan debuted on Disney+ Premier Access  for a hefty price tag of $30.  While many speculated the cost would scare off most interested parties, a new study suggests that 29% of the U.S.’s 30 million Disney+ subscribers purchased the film meaning that its grossed $261 million to date. If released in theaters, a $261 million box office gross would have Mulan ranked #2 on the all time domestic openings list, sandwiched in between Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War.

Sony Pictures Animation’s CONNECTED is an original animated comedy from director Mike Rianda (Gravity Falls) and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Lego Movie), about an everyday family's struggle to relate while technology rises up around the world!

When Katie Mitchell (voiced by Abbi Jacobson), a creative outsider, is accepted into the film school of her dreams, her plans to meet “her people” at college are upended when her nature-loving dad Rick (voiced by Danny McBride) determines the whole family should drive Katie to school together and bond as a family one last time. Katie and Rick are joined by the rest of the family, including Katie’s wildly positive mom Linda (voiced by Maya Rudolph), her quirky little brother Aaron (voiced by Mike Rianda), and the family’s delightfully chubby pug Monchi for the ultimate family road trip.

Suddenly, the Mitchells’ plans are interrupted by a tech uprising: all around the world, the electronic devices people love – from phones, to appliances, to an innovative new line of personal robots – decide it’s time to take over. With the help of two friendly malfunctioning robots, the Mitchells will have to get past their problems and work together to save each other and the world!
