The first trailer for the
Sonic the Hedehog movie was released last week to an overwhelming amount of backlash. This was the first time that the character's realistic redesign had been revealed to the world and fans were shocked and appalled upon seeing it. He was muscular and had human teeth, not to mention his eyes were separate (something which interestingly can't be said for the character's usual design).
Following the immense backlash, the film's director took to Twitter to calm the storm. Paramount would apparently rework the character's design again to be more in line with the character's usual look. Though many were happy about this, for some it wasn't quite that simple. An example of one of these conflicted individuals would be,
God of War director, Cory Barlog.
Barlog recently took to social media (
@CoryBarlog) to share his thoughts on the preceedings, believing that the decision to change something so vital after backlash would set a bad precedent.
"Really don't know how I feel about creating in this kind of world. Important to keep the pulse of the audience but this makes it harder to try something really different that, at first may seem like too much change, but on completion might surprise us."
Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theaters on the November 7th, 2019.
