Paramount Pictures finally released the first official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, the live-action movie adaptation for Sega's iconic video game series of the same name, disappointing millions of fans who were expecting to see their favorite character on the big screen.

The Sonic the Hedgehog live-action film has taken some liberties when it comes to redesigning the beloved character, and fans are simply not having it; complaining about his face, teeth, and overall design that makes him look nothing like the video game character.

Yuji Naka, the programmer for the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, has recently revealed that he feels somewhat responsible for the character's redesign, while also stating that he wanted to make an appearance in the movie as an extra.

"Seeing the unfavorable reaction to Hollywood Sonic reminded me of this, but it looks like the CG is being made by Marza. Marza used to be Sega Visual Entertainment which I made, so I feel like I have some responsibility for it. Speaking of that, I said I wanted to appear as an extra in a movie. It looks like they forgot. It was pretty long ago so I had actually forgotten too, but I would have liked to appear in a movie."

One thing that Naka really liked, however, was Jim Carrey's depiction of Dr. Robotnik(a.k.a Eggman), who — by the end of the controversial trailer — is seen looking a lot more like the character from the video games, unlike the Robotnik seen throughout the entire trailer; claiming that he's actually looking forward to watching the movie.

"After watching it a few times, I've started to get used to how Sonic looks. When stopped, it seems pretty out of place, but Sonic isn't supposed to be motionless and it's better when he's moving. Eggman left a good impression. I'm looking forward to it."

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theaters on the 7th of November.
