Director Rob Letterman, as well as the people over at Warner Bros. and Legendary, have managed to bring to life the world of Pokémon in the highly anticipated
Detective Pikachu, and fans will finally be able to experience the movie when the movie releases next week on the
10th of May.
With every trailer that the studio releases, fans get even more convinced that there's no better person to voice Pikachu than Ryan Reynolds, but a recent interview has revealed that he didn't want to use his normal voice for the character; instead choosing to go for a slightly more Noir kind of voice.
During an interview on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Reynolds said that he was going for a slightly more "
old-school gumshoe, kind of, Columbo, Peter Falk, sort of Brookyln kind of thing" when decided what he wanted to do with Pikachu's voice; an idea that was quickly dismissed by the studio, as they wanted Pikachu to sound like his normal voice.
Pikachu has a very different voice in the game, and when a
Detective Pikachu live-action movie was announced by Warner Bros. and Legendary, fans immediately thought of Danny DeVito as their number one choice to play the role; since that is actually kind of what Pikachu sounds like in the Detective Pikachu video game.
Having Ryan Reynolds doing a different voice would've definitely been interesting, almost as interesting as casting Danny DeVito in the role, but now that we're onlhy a week away from the movie's release, the majority of fans just can't see a better fit for Pikachu than Reynolds.
The first-ever live-action Pokémon movie, “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character in the first-ever live-action movie based on the iconic face of the global Pokémon brand—one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and most successful media franchises of all time.
Detective Pikachu will release in theatres on the 10th of May in 2019.
