The Hello Kitty movie adaptation was first announced by Sanrio back in 2015. It was planned to have a global release this year, though that evidently never came to fruition. Instead, it seems that work on the project is just beginning this year as a new report by Deadline has revealed that Lindsay Beer will write the feature film.
We don't know whether the film will be entirely animation or a combination of live-action and visual-effects - like Detective Pikachu - nor do we know anything about the film's story. Essentially, the only information we are privy to is that it will be an “English language film based on the venerable kid brand," and a collaboration between New Line Cinema, Sanrio, and Flynn Picture Company.
Beer is an up-and-coming screenwriter who is credited as having worked on the following franchises: Transformers, Star Trek, and Legendary's MonsterVerse. She served as the executive producer and writer for Netflix's Sierra Burgess Is A Loser and co-wrote the popular song by name of Sunflower.
As well as Hello Kitty; Beer has got quite a few projects lined up for herself - those are as follows: Masters of the Universe for Sony, Chaos Walking and The Kingkiller Chronicles for Lionsgate, a female-centric Fast & Furious spinoff, and The Magic Order for Netflix. Beer will also serve as the showrunner for the latter series.
