LADY AND THE TRAMP: Janelle Monáe To "Reinvent" The Controversial Siamese Cat Song For The Live-Action Remake
Aside from giving the classic animated film a live-action makeover, Disney's Lady and the Tramp remake will also reportedly see Janelle Monáe and the Wondaland crew create a new version of the Siamese Cat song.
Last year, it was revealed that Grammy-winning artist and actress Janelle Monáe had joined the cast of the Disney+ exclusive film Lady and the Tramp, and now a new report reveals the star will have an even more significant role in the production.
Specifically, along with voicing the pound dog Peg, Variety has reported that Monáe and Wondaland contributors Nate “Rocket” Wonder and Roman GianArthur will be "reinventing" the track "The Siamese Cat Song" from the original animated film.
The original musical number, which was recorded by Peggy Lee for the feline characters Si and Am, has long been criticized for depicting the cats as Asian caricatures, so a less offensive version of this track is more than welcomed.
Aside from Janelle Monáe, the cast of Lady and the Tramp also includes Tessa Thompson as Lady, Justin Theroux as the Tramp, Kiersey Clemons as Darling Dear, and Thomas Mann as Jim Dear.
