Back in January, it was announced that a live-action movie based on the Mattel character of
Barbie would be moving forward at Warner Bros. with LuckyChap Entertainment producing. LuckyChap are a production company that was founded by Margot Robbie. As such, the popular actress will be playing the titular role in the film.
According to a recent report by
The Hollywood Reporter, some talented writers have been brought onto the project. Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach will co-write the live-action
Barbie movie. The former writer is reportedly being eyed to direct the feature.
Gerwig is most well-known for being the writer-director behind,
Lady Bird, a film that released in 2017 and earned two Academy Award nominations. She's currently at work on the upcoming remake of
Little Women. Baumbach is known for writing Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Life Aquatic, and The Squid and the Whale - the latter of which also garnered an Oscar nod.
The Barbie moving has been in the works for quite some time. Once upon a time, Amy Schumer was set to star as the titular doll before being replaced by Anne Hathaway. Alethea Jones was set to direct at that time. Those versions of the film evidently didn't come to fruition.
