CRUELLA: First Look At Star Emma Stone As The Titular Villain In Disney's Live-Action Adaptation

It has been revealed that Cruella — Disney's live-action film about the villain from 101 Dalmatians — will be set in London during the punk rock era of the 1970s.

Cruella de Vil is easily one of Disney's most iconic villains. As the song once teased, " If she doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will.”

Well, today at D23 Expo, Disney shared our first look at star Emma Stone in Cruella, where she will play the titular puppy snatcher from 101 Dalmatians. It's certainly far cry from the animated version, and even the 1996 live-action remake that starred Glenn Close as the iconic villain.

Sure, her hair still features the same black and white part, but the wardrobe is far edgier, which makes sense considering it was also revealed that the film will take place in London during the punk rock era of the 1970s.

It's certainly an interesting — and specific — time period, but remains to be seen if it'll have any impact on the story beyond just her wardrobe. We still don't really know the plot of Cruella — only that it'll tell her story before we knew her in the 1961 original animated version.

Also seen in the photo are Cruella's two bumbling henchmen Jasper and Horace, played by Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser, respectively. The film also stars Emma Thompson.
After a delay, Cruella will now hit theaters on Memorial Day weekend, May 28, 2021.
