Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse stunned audiences with its bombastic art style and frenetic animation on its way to earning $375.5 million worldwide at the box office. The goal for the film was to make it look like a comic book come to life, with producers mandating that animators use traditional comic book techniques instead of approaching the film how they normally would on a standard 2D or 3D film.
If you've seen any sort of footage from Spider-Verse you know the film looks definitely managed to nail its goal of evoking comic book sensibilities, however, the concept art below from Hossein Diba makes us wonder about how the film would have been received had it gone a more realistic route. It would be a misnomer to call this fan art as Diba is a professional who has previously worked with Blizzard Entertainment, CD PROJEKT RED, WWE, Blur and more.
Sony put a sequel to Spider-Verse and a spinoff in development before the film was release due to the incredible hype surrounding the film. A sequel officially went into production June 2020 for a April 8, 2022 release date, however with Sony having to juggle a number of film release dates due to COVID-19 (essentially pushing most of its films a year out), the Spider-Verse sequel is now slated for release on October 7, 2020.
What do you think of Hossein's art? Would you have preferred the Spider-Verse film to have a more realist approach (as seen above) or do you think there's no changes to be made by Sony? Let us know in the comment section below.
