Of the many future Star Wars projects Disney has planned, one of the most anticipated is Star Wars: The Bad Batch. The upcoming animated series was first announced as coming to Disney+ back in July but during yesterday's Investor Day, we got our first look at what looks like a very different type of Star Wars story.
The Bad Batch follows a group of elite and experimental clones in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. The specialized group was actually first introduced in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and this series will continue their story in the post Clone-War era.
For those unfamiliar with the Bad Batch, its members uniquely vary genetically from the others in the Clone Army. Each possesses a singular exceptional skill, making them effective and formidable soldiers.
The sizzle reel doesn't offer much clarity in terms of story, but pretty much highlights all of the explosive action we can expect to see when the Bad Batch arrives on Disney+. The series will follow each of these highly specialized soldiers as they tak on daring mercenary missions and "struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose" following the Clone War.
Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) is executive producing the series alongside Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Brad Rau (Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance) and Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance, NCIS). Rau is serving as supervising director and Corbett as head writer.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch will arrive exclusively on Disney+ in 2021.
