From Haunted Mansion to Goosebumps, Disney has big plans for the Halloween season across Disney+ and Hulu. For younger audiences though, there's a new stop-motion special set to arrive next month, Mickey and Friends Trick or Treats.
In this Halloween stop-motion special, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy are out trick-or-treating when Donald spots a massive, spooky mansion that he assumes will be filled with delicious treats. But instead of treats, they get tricked by the mansion's owner, Witch Hazel, who casts a spell that turns them into their Halloween costumes.
Mickey and gang are off trick-or-treating when Donald spies the spookiest mansion he’s ever seen. With the belief that the spookiest house has the best treats, he convinces his friends to risk a visit. Turns out that the owner of the place is Witch Hazel, who doesn’t have any treats and instead casts a spell on them. With songs and comic spookiness, Mickey and Friends Trick or Treats celebrates the fun of Halloween and the meaning of friendship.
Mickey and Friends Trick or Treats will actually premiere first on Disney Junior, Disney Channel, and Disney XD on October 1 at 7:00 p.m. EDT/PDT, but we won't have to wait long for its arrival on streaming platforms. The Halloween special will debut on both Disney+ and Hulu the following day on October 2.
Mickey and Friends Trick or Treats is written by Kathleen Shugrue and directed by David Brooks. The special also features new original music from Emmy Award-nominated songwriter Beau Black (“The Lion Guard”).
Mickey and Friends Trick or Treats is just one of many Halloween specials set to arrive on Disney's streaming platforms. The recently released Haunted Mansion movie, which flopped at the box office this summer, will debut on Disney+ on October 4, while Goosebumps, a new series based on the popular R.L. Stine books, will premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu on October 13. Of course, Disney+ is also home to other family-friendly Halloween flicks, such as Hocus Pocus, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie, and Muppets Haunted Mansion.
This is actually the second stop-motion production from David Brooks, who also helmed last year's holiday special Mickey Saves Christmas. In that special, Mickey, Minnie and their pals attempt to celebrate the perfect Christmas in their snowy cabin, only to travel to the North Pole to help save Christmas when Plut causes Santa to lose his presents.
