The sequel to 2013's Maleficent; Maleficent: Mistress of Evil debuted in theatres back in October 2019. Starring Angelina Jolie as the titular villainess, the movie acts as somewhat of a retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale as well as a continuation. Elle Fanning reprises the role of Princess Aurora and the cast also includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Harris Dickinson, and more.
Critics weren't too fond of the sequel, what with it amassing just a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it earned $491 million at the box office. That's decent compared to its $185 million budget but nothing compared to essentially everything else Disney has pumped out as of late. However, the sequel did earn an Academy Award nomination in the "Best Makeup and Hairstyling" category.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil has been available to own digitally as well as on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD since January and last month it was announced that it would soon be available to stream on Disney+. Well, that day has arrived. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is now officially available to watch on Disney's streaming service in the United States and Canada.
However, its predecessor still isn't available to stream on the platform. This is because many of Disney's movies are still tied to different streaming services and networks. Maleficent (the first instalment) will be available to stream on Disney+ in October.
