Back in October 2018,
it was announced that a live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch was in the works at Disney — of course being only one of a seemingly infinite amount of live-action remakes that are being developed over there.
The original, animated film debuted all the way back in 2002 and told the story of a young and lonely girl who unwittingly adopts what she thinks is a dog but actually turns out to be an extraterrestrial genetic experiment created and engineered to be a force of unwavering destruction — as you do.
The DisInsider recently learned some new information about the live-action remake — and they're pretty reputable so we're inclined to believe their report. It's said that production of the live-action remake will kick off in Hawaii later this year — specifically in Fall. Stitch will be brought to life with CGI — as expected. It's believed that Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, will reprise the role.
The live-action remake of
Lilo & Stitch will reportedly not have a traditional theatrical release but rather be distributed through the Disney+ streaming service — similar to Disney's recent live-action remake of
Lady and the Tramp.
Mika Van Waes (
The Crooked Man) is credited as writing the script for the remake while Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback produce. Rideback also produced last year's live-action remake of
Aladdin and is producing an
Inspector Gadget film that's set for Disney's streaming service. Zoe Kent (
Sade) and Louie Provost (
Togo) will oversee production.
