Trainers can finally battle with their friends both near and far in Pokémon Go. Less than 24 hours ago, Niantic finally unleashed the PVP function that players have been clamoring for since the game's release.
Niantic first made the feature available only to Trainers at Level 40, but only hours later all players over Lever 10 were also given the feature. To battle a fellow Trainer you must be in the same are as the Trainer you want to play against. It is easily accessed via your friends list and also by scanning the QR codes of fellow Trainers you come accross - allowing you to battle with those you may not be riends with and giving more fun to the rivalry between teams.
If Trainers have Ultra Friends or Best Friends - meaning those who they have traded with many times in the game - they will be able to play with them long distance, but everyone else will have to play in the same location. There are also AI controlled Team Leaders for Trainers to battle.
If players are looking for in-game rewards, they can be obtained by battling other human Trainers - up to three times per day. One of these items is the Sinnoh Stone, which is necessary for several Generation 4 evolutions.
PVP is finally available so get out there and battle your friends!
