With Halloween only a week away, The Simpsons' annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode recently debuted, though the show's producer has his focus set on the future - next year's "Treehouse of Horror" episode specifically. Al Jean recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly, in promotion of the new, haunting episode of the series, and revealed that next year's horror special will be the series' six-hundred-and-sixty-sixth episode.
Though you're probably aware, the significance of the number "666" relates to the New Testament. It's said to be "the number of the beast" and invoke Satan, the Antichrist, basically it isn't the most holy of numbers. Which is why it's significant that the horror-related episode happens to fall on Episode #666 - that is unless it was actually planned.
“Next year, ‘Treehouse of Horror XXX‘ will coincidentally be Simpsons episode 666. As we planned it in 1989!" Though the animated series hasn't been renewed for another season just yet, seeing as it's currently on its thirtieth, it seems safe to say that is will be. “I’d like to do more seasons, just to ensure that that doesn’t cause the end of the world."
What do you think of Jean's comments? What do you think of "Treehouse of Horror XXX" being The Simpsons' 666th episode?
The Simpsons airs on Sundays on FOX.
