The Prince debuted on HBO Max in the late days of July and while it was supposed to release earlier, they felt it distasteful to release it around the time Prince Philip passed away at the age of 99. Now, the series is facing harsh backlash due to its depiction of the royal family. The series paints literally everyone in the family as half-wits or down-right cruel, some even comparing it to a Family Guy clone.
While it's one thing to make satirical remarks about the adults in the royal family, many series and comedy hosts have done so already, The Prince takes it to another level by making the series focus on none other than Prince George, the royal family's eight-year-old son. This rubbed people the wrong way, feeling it's wrong to mock children, even royals.
Nonetheless, the series paints the young royal child as a brat voiced by series creator Family Guy alum, Gary Janetti. They do make sure everyone knows that The Prince is satire with the first thing people see being a statement about it not really being the royal family and that people should "chill."
"Basing #ThePrince off a child who hasn't chosen to be in public realm is irresponsible & not funny." One user wrote while mentioning how this applies to every celeb child and threatening to cancel their subscription. "Whatever your thoughts on the Royal Family, I think everyone can agree that children should be off limits. This is so gross and I cannot understand how it ever got made #ThePrince." Another chimed in.
One user, however, mentioned how this wasn't something Janetti was offered on a whim by HBO Max, it was earned because of an audience for his Instagram.
