One of the most impactful and memorable announcements from the recently passed San Diego Comic-Con event was that, the beloved animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be making a return - after it was cancelled back in 2014.
As the series amassed a massive, devoted following due to its excellent storytelling; it's no surprise that reviving the show after four years of being off-the-air would be quite stressful for its showrunner. This is exactly what Dave Filoni, producer of both Clone Wars and its successor Star Wars Rebels, recently discussed with Comicbook.com - check it out below:
With Clone Wars, I will say there is a bit of pressure because, obviously from [the reaction to the new season], the people loved it. I mean, they grew up with it. It was massive. So I do feel the pressure of wanting to make something amazing for them, and I challenge myself to not take the easy outs in the story and not do simple things.
Taking place between the events of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the animated series aimed to improve upon the maligned prequels. While many people weren't a fan of Anakin in the live-action films, fans of the show know that he's very much a highlight of it.
Given that Filoni has worked on Rebels since its predecessor's cancellation, which takes place afterwards within Star Wars' continuity, he has very much changed as a storyteller - as he addresses below:
We're also working at certain points with some material that we had written in the past, and so I've gone back and looked at it because I'm a different storyteller, and I think a better storyteller now. And how do we improve things, you ask yourself. I mean, we do that every season, in all honesty, so, in the last season, Rebels should be significantly better than the first. And the same is true for Clone Wars. So now how do I take a show that we stopped making five years ago and make it better than it was? That's the challenge. We're not just recreating it. We are continuing it, and we have to make it better.
What do you think of Filoni's comments? Are you looking forward to the return of Star Wars: The Clone Wars?
Star Wars: The Clone Wars will debut in 2019 on Disney's upcoming streaming service.
