While
Star Wars fans faced the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher back in 2016, she left behind a legacy that includes the great Princess/General Leia Organa. That legacy will live on in Disney's new show
Star Wars: Resistance.
This week,
Disney debuted the trailer for Star Wars: Resistance, giving us a look at the upcoming animated series which will not only feature new characters but some familiar faces as well. We've known that ace pilot Poe Dameron (voiced by Oscar Isaac) will take part in the adventure and he will be joined by his lovable sidekick droid BB-8. Gwendoline Christie is also voicing the chrome-armored Captain Phasma, who unfortunately didn't get enough love in the actual movies but could shine in the series.
Now we've learned that General Leia will be another familiar face returning for the series. While we didn't see her featured in the trailer, EW's Anthony Breznican confirmed her appearance in the show.
Actress Rachel Butera has the honor of voicing General Leia in the show. Other acting credits include Tammy/Dolla in
Tammy's Tiny Team Time and Roseham Boar in
A Fowl American.
It's unclear how much screentime General Leia will get in
Star Wars: Resistance but you have to figure she plays a pretty pivotal role in the fight against The First Order. With
Resistance taking place after the events of
Return of the Jedi and leading up to
The Force Awakens, we'll hopefully learn more of Leia's backstory and how she rose to become General in the Resistance.
Star Wars: Resistance follows the adventure of Kazudo Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a secret mission to spy on The First Order. The series will premiere on Sunday, October 7 at 10:00 p.m. EDT on Disney Channel.
