Star Wars Rebels' fourth season brought an end to the show in a triumphant and satisfying way. One of the most shocking and fulfilling moments of the finale, if not the entire show itself, was the montage which concluded the series.
The five minute montage explored the Ghost crew's whereabouts following the original trilogy. We saw that Hera, was not only still a pilot, but was also a mother. Sitting beside her in the cockpit was a young boy - half human, with green hair. This, of course, meant that Hera must've been pregnant before Kanan's noble sacrifice.
Showrunner of Rebels Dave Filoni recently discussed the revelation with CinemaBlend. Filoni revealed that, should viewers have had a keen-eye, they may have noticed some subtle hints that Hera was expecting.
There are! There are little clues that I would talk to the animation supervisor and I would say, 'We'll do this and just have her put her hand here on her stomach at this certain moment,' or just little tiny things. But I kept it pretty secretive. I did this this thing where I didn't give any characters dialogue in the epilogue except for Sabine.
So Tiya [Sircar] knew all those things and had to remain quiet about it, which was quite a bit of pressure for her because the actors know that if they don't need to know something, I just don't tell them. If it's important for the character, they absolutely know. But I don't give them much more than they need to know or kind of the space around them. So it was a surprise and it pretty worked out.
With the show's final couple of episodes being jam-packed with exciting content; it's understandable that many viewers didn't pick up on the hints.
As she narrated the finale's montage, Tiya Sircar, the voice of Sabine was the only member of the cast privy to the information ahead of time. This meant that, as Vanessa Marshall recently admitted, the voice of Hera herself didn't know about Jacen until she watched the episode for herself.
What do you think about Filoni's comments? What did you think about Jacen's reveal during the Star Wars Rebels finale?
The fourth season of Star Wars Rebels is available now on Blu-ray.
