Kamp Koral, the CG-animated prequel series to SpongeBob Squarepants, will no longer debut on Nickelodeon. As reported by Deadline, the upcoming spinoff series will now premiere on CBS All Access in early 2021.
The streaming service has benefited from a raft of Comedy Central, MTV, BET and Nickelodeon shows following the 2019 merger of CBS and Viacom. Kamp Koral will be the latest addition to the soon-to-be-rebranded All Access platform, joining Avatar: Last Airbender, Rugrats, and all of the original seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Kamp Koral was first announced in 2019 as a spinoff prequel series to SpongeBob SquarePants. The series will follow a 10-year-old SpongeBob and his friends as they head to sleep-away camp for the summer where "they spend their time building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral."
"SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon’s EVP Animation Production and Development, said back when the series was first greenlit.
SpongeBob SquarePants‘ Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller will co-executive produce the prequel series which was given a 13-episode order. It's expected to debut early next year.
