Are the folks at Nickelodeon running out of ideas for new shows? Well, it would seem that way because the company is making moves to bring a series about a younger SpongeBob to the forefront.
From what we have gathered, the series will be called Young SpongeBob, which is clearly a rip-off idea of Young Sheldon. What's interesting here is the fact that Nickelodeon is going the CGI route, a move that might not sit well with some fans.
The good news is, Tom Kenny is set to reprise his role as SpongeBob. Now, we're not sure if Patrick will ever make an appearance, but seeing as they’ve known each other since childhood, its almost a given that Patrick Star will make his presence felt.
Not to mention, a SpongeBob series without the popular starfish wouldn’t be the same at all.
“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” said Ramsey Naito, EVP Animation Production and Development, Nickelodeon.
We understand that the story will focus on a 10-year-old SpongeBob Squarepants during his summer at the sleepaway camp. Production should begin by the end of June, which means, we could see the first episode by the end of the year.
