For a time, there we thought Angry Birds was dead, but for some reason, it's still holding on for dear life. From what we’ve recently gathered, an Angry Birds animated cartoon is on the horizon, and it was discussed at Annecy.

The development company known as A Cake is partnering with Rovio Entertainment to bring this new series to fruition. Not only that but Toronto-based Yowza! Animation is also onboard to make the magic happen.

Development on the series began back in October of 2018, which suggest to us that it could begin airing before the end of 2019.

“We have had a lot of fun putting this project together. We are immensely proud of the outcome and are looking forward to sharing with the industry and with our partners who have already indicated strong interest in the series,” said Tom van Waveren, CEO & Creative Director, CAKE.

We understand the animated series will see the return of Red, Chuck and Bomb, as birds in their tween years. Not only that, but other birdie characters will make an appearance as well, but right now we have no idea who they are.

What about the Piggies?

There's not much to say about the Piggies since such information is being held back for now. But as the unknown release date draws closer, we expect both Cake and Rovio to sing to the crowd
