PBS Kids announced that its hit award winning series, Nature Cat, is returning to the airwaves for two more seasons. The series, which premiered back in late 2015, follows the tale of Fred, a typical house cat that turns into a not-so-typical feline once his family leaves for the day.
Once the family leaves, he becomes Nature Cat, “backyard explorer extraordinaire.” Now, him being a house cat comes with the distinct disadvantage of not knowing a thing about nature, however, that's where his team of friendly animal pals come in to aid him in his journey to explore his backyard for exciting adventures that await. The series also makes sure to encourage activity and to "play the show."
Nature Cat is chock full of "aha" discoveries, funny moments, and of course, adventures of epic proprotions. In the background, the series houses a stellar cast with the main role taken up by Saturday Night Live alum, Taran Killam. Fellow SNL alums, Kate McKinnon and Bobby Moynihan take up the roles of Squeaks and Hal respectively. The former being a fearless mouse and the latter being the overly curious man's best friend.
Couple and puppeteers, David and Adam Rudman, created the series. Their belief behind how the series has last this longboils down to the themes put forth in each episode and how it displays the importance of spending time in nature. They also promise the new season will be bigger and bolder and house even more funny adventures.
“The humor of Nature Cat along with the overarching theme of the importance of spending time in nature continues to resonate with kids and families, especially over the past year. The new seasons will bring bigger, bolder, and of course funny adventures while presenting relevant themes such as weather, recycling and civics in relatable stories for our young audience.”
You can watch the series on affiliated PBS channels or on PBS Kids. This revival also comes on the heels of the station officially canceling Arthur, the longest-running kids animated program, after 25 seasons. They also canned Caliou earlier this year, but that's not as controversial.
