HBO has announced that the animated Harley Quinn series will be returning to HBO Max for its third season, and it's right around the corner! They've also released a new trailer to celebrate the announcement, which you can find below.

The official description for Harley Quinn's third season is as follows: "The mayhem and madness continue in season three of this biting and uproarious adult animated comedy series. Wrapping up their 'Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour,' Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy  return to Gotham as the new power couple of DC villainy.

"Along with their ragtag crew – King Shark, Clayface, Frank the Plant — Harlivy" strives to become the best version of themselves while also working towards Ivy’s long desired plan of transforming Gotham into an Eden paradise."

The show's voice cast includes  Kaley Cuoco (Harley Quinn), Lake Bell (Poison Ivy), Ron Funches (King Shark), JB Smoove (Frank the Plant), Alan Tudyk (Clayface/The Joker), Matt Oberg (Kite Man), Christopher Meloni (Commissioner Gordon), Andy Daly (Two-Face), Diedrich Bader (Batman/Bruce Wayne), James Adomian (Bane), Sanaa Lathan (Selina Kyle), Briana Cuoco (Batgirl/Barbara Gordon), Harvey Guillen (Nightwing).

As Harley's journey continues, executive producer Patrick Schumacker says of the character's appeal, "Harley has no impulse control and there's a large amount of wish fulfillment in that way. We all go through life sort of clamping down our initial instincts, because we live in a society where there are consequences for our actions — but for Harley it's very freeing.

Adds executive producer Justin Halpern, "And then you can do whatever you want. But she reacts the way we feel in that initial impulse when somebody cuts you off in traffic. You want to drive their car off into the side of the road, but she does it. So there's catharsisis; you're watching this person react in the way that you might if you weren't afraid of consequences or completely detached yourself from society. It's fun to watch that."

On the one hand,” interjects Schumacker, “she’s a super smart, clinical psychologist. And on the other, she is also — especially in her early representations — a ditzy chick with a mallet. So that in itself is a contradiction. She’s also a supervillain who happens to have a heart of gold, so there’s that. And I think those contradictions have made her really interesting over the years and have helped kind of elevate her and give her longevity. And also marketing dollars; never underestimate marketing dollars.

The show is produced by Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions and Yes, Norman Productions in association with Warner Bros. Animation. The series was developed by Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey. Executive Producers are Halpern, Schumacker, Kaley Cuoco, Sam Register, Jessica Goldstein and Chrissy Pietrosh.

Harley Quinn returns to HBO Max on July 28th.
