Singer, writer, actor Donald Glover had laid plans for a Deadpool animated series, for FX, only for such a concept be uncermoniously struck down. Many fans felt let down and didn't know who was to blame - that is until now; as FX CEO John Landgraf recently revealed that Marvel themselves were responsible for pulling the plug on the highly anticipated series.
During the Television Critics Association's press tour, Landgraf explained that Marvel cancelled the show which both Donald and his broher Stephen were working on - Variety reported:
They didn’t want to do the show that Donald and Stephen [Glover] wrote. We would have done the show that Donald and Stephen wrote, but it wasn’t our decision. When Marvel decided not to do that show, we parted company with them, as did Donald and Stephen.
With the second season of, the award-winning series, Atlanta only just being brought to a close; the Glovers relationship with the network still seems intact. FX's released a statement which explained away the cancellation as yet another dreaded tale of "creative differences":
Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series. FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on Legion, which will continue.
Both Glover and Landgraf both appear to as dismayed as fans at the cancellation. Glover writing, in a since deleted tweet, "For the record: I wasn't too busy to work on Deadpool," which was the cover-story at the time.
What do you think about Landgraf's comments and Marvel's decision to axe the show?
