At a recent Annecy highlight presentation, Disney detailed a trio of shows slated to premiere in the coming year and beyond. A new series
Vikingskool was announced alongside early first looks at
The Owl House and
The Rocketeer.
Slated to premiere at the end of 2019,
Vikingskool follows a group of young would-be Viking warriors in an elite Vikingskool. Specifically, the show follows three best friends: Erik, Arnie, and Ilba as they embark on a series of humorous and exciting adventure. Digital and Acquisitions EMEA Orion Ross described the characters as being "like freshman in '
Top Gun,' but for Vikings."
Vikingskool is targeting 6- to 11-year-olds.
In addition to
Vikingskool Disney also revealed,
The Owl House, a 2D animated, horror-comedy that follows a teenage girl by the name Luz who discovers a portal to another realm where humans are not well-liked. After disguising herself in order to fit in at witch school, Luz teams up with a witch named Eda and her side-kick, King, an actual former king now searching for a way to restore his title and glory. The series is in pre-production and on track for a 2020 launch.
The third show revealed was
the recently announced animated series for The Rocketeer. This will exist as a 3D, CGI series and is re-imagining the 1930s comics for a 2- to 5-year-old audience on Disney Junior. The show will indeed follow six-year-old Kit Seacourt who was seen in an early test screening trying out her new gear. As we previously learned, Kit will be joined by her "gadget-minded" best friend Tesh and her airplane mechanic uncle Ambrose. While there was no specific mention of this Variety's report from the presentation, Disney previously stated that each episode will feature two 11-minute stories and an original song.
The Rocketeer is slated to take to the skies and hit Disney Junior in 2019.
It's nice to see such a varied slate of upcoming shows coming from the House of Mouse. What do you think of the three sneak peeks?
