MTV wants to reboot many of its old hits in an effort to capture some of its lost luster. The network is launching MTV Studios and previously let it be known that a revival of Aeon Flux was in the works. Now, chatter is focusing on a potential reboot or continuation of Daria.
The creation of MTV Studios is part of a larger push by its parent company, Viacom, to develop shows and shop them to other networks. Nickelodeon was also given similar directions by Viacom and has already sold a new animated series to Netflix.
The new series will be titled Daria & Jodie and is being executive produced by Grace Edwards , a writer on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Inside Amy Shumer. The new series will reportedly give equal footing to "Jodie" who appears to be a fresh take on Jane from the original animated adult comedy.
ABOUT DARIA
Synopsis: Brainy, sardonic Daria Morgendorffer tries to fly under the radar at Lawndale High School, and she's doing a pretty good job of it: Her self-esteem teacher can't even remember her name. Not that low self-esteem is a problem for Daria, who explains that `I have low esteem for everyone else'. Frankly, she couldn't care less about the airheads in the `in' crowd, like her sister, Quinn, or cheerleader Brittany. At least best friend Jane Lane is readily available any time Daria needs a break from all the clueless masses around them.
