Cartoon Network Africa has recently begun an initiative called “Creative Lab,” a program with the aim of finding local animation creators, graphic artists, and writers currently living in Africa to produce short animated content for the network.
Cartoon Network, which is currently one of the principal networks in the entertainment industry with children as the target audience, began the initiative with the intent of providing local short-form content for Cartoon Network Africa made for and by local animation artists. It’s a valiant step towards creating inclusive content that will resonate with an African audience.
For those interested in applying, the deadline for the Creative Lab initiative ends August 31st. In order to apply, submissions should include a short comedy project that is 1 to 3 minutes in length. It should also carry a similar tone to Cartoon Networks past programming. Cartoon Network will then select ten of the submitted projects that will be shortlisted and pitched to Cartoon Network.
In the final selection process, a winner, as well as two runners-up, will be chosen between November 14th and 16th. If your pitch is chosen, a pilot of your animated project could be seen on Cartoon Network Africa as early as 2019!
Creative Lab is similar to Cartoon Network's past program, Imagination Studios, except submissions are open only to adults. Applicants must be African residents that are 18 years or older, or have an African based business.
