With a total of 55 issues, ten Eisner Awards and eleven Harvey Awards, Jeff Smith's critically acclaimed and beloved comic book series, Bone, is finally set to be adapted as an animated series.
As detailed in their official press release, Netflix has revealed that they are developing a new show based on Smith's creation. While the project is still in the very early stages, it seems things are looking up for the property, as previous efforts to adapt the books have been unable to move forward.
There are currently no details on who will be involved in the animated series, but Smith did comment on the news that his work has finally found a suitable home on the massive streaming service.
“I’ve waited a long time for this,” Smith said. “Netflix is the perfect home for Bone. Fans of the books know that the story develops chapter by chapter and book by book. An animated series is exactly the way to do this! The team at Netflix understands Bone and is committed to doing something special - this is good news for kids and cartoon lovers all over the world.”
Originally an independently published series, the Bone comics ran from 1991 to 2004, earning many accolades and a coveted spot on Time Magazine's “Ten Best Graphic Novels of All Time” list over the course of its esteemed run.
